Transdisciplinary 15-point Requirement Course Examples

The Transdisciplinary 15-point Requirement Courses will enable students to engage with complex societal issues from diverse and novel perspectives.

While engaging with these complex societal issues, students will develop the transdisciplinary skills and competencies necessary to grapple with these issues during their time at University and beyond.

Since these issues are not solvable by individuals, a government or a discipline, learners need to engage in diverse ways of knowing and doing. Rather than asking students to ‘solve’ complex problems, learning will focus on the development of a transdisciplinary mindset. Importantly, these courses will also enable learners to work with broader communities to create a sense of engagement, purpose, and capacity to contribute to the creation of a sustainable and hopeful world for themselves and others.

The following are only ‘potential’ examples for the Transdisciplinary 15-point Requirement Courses. The EOI process enables staff to propose a possible Transdisciplinary 15-point Requirement Course beyond what is listed in the chart below. The Transdisciplinary Leadership Team welcome all suggestions for possible themes (complex societal issues) for courses.

The suite of TRCs offered will also align with the four University of Auckland priority areas:

  1. Addressing the transition to sustainable ecosystems
  2. Improving health and well-being for all
  3. Advancing just, cultured, and diverse communities
  4. innovating contemporary, distributed, and secure knowledge systems

Each TRC will align to one or more of these areas.
