Transdisciplinarity and the Structured Model

The initial delivery of the 15-point transdisciplinary requirement at undergraduate level will be met through a structured model.

A structured model is a curated set of courses that are limited in number and designed to align with the Transdisciplinary Learning Criteria.  The structure provides consistency in learning outcomes and experiences.

The Pro-Vice Chancellor Education’s decision to support a structured model, followed a comprehensive review of the scholarship on transdisciplinarity, extensive discussion and consultation with academics who research and teach transdisciplinarity, CFT Faculty and Large-Scale Research Institute (LSRI) representatives and engagement with the eight faculties and the Provosts, Deans, and Directors Committee (PDDC).

The structured model will initially be met at the undergraduate level by the foundational Transdisciplinary 15-point Requirement Courses. These are 100-level courses centred around a complex societal issue.

The foundational Transdisciplinary 15-point Requirement Courses will be rolled out from Semester 2, 2024 with two pilots. By 2026, there will be a full offering of foundational Transdisciplinary 15-point Requirement Courses to provide sufficient scale, range and breadth to accommodate all new undergraduate enrolments.

Initially, the foundational Transdisciplinary Requirement Courses will be the only offering that will satisfy the 15-point transdisciplinary requirement.
